I'm Riding For
In memory of Arlene Mulder Papaioannou and all the kids still fighting cancer
This years ride is in memory of my daughter Arlene, who lost her fight in a battle against colon cancer in October 2018💔! While she was no longer a child, she was MY child! . Please help me to reach my goal of $15,000 or more this year. I’m trusting that I can count on your support again this year....will YOU be the one that pushes my numbers over the top? You sponsor and I will do the biking!
My Story
This year I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer again!
Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
My ride in 2023, 2024 and 2025 have surpassed my goal of $15,000, so my starting goal for next year will be $15,000 again and will be adjusted as needed! I continue to bike in memory of my daughter Arlene, and riding and fundraising for all those still in the fight. I am hoping that you will continue to support me by sponsoring. YOU SPONSOR AND I WILL DO THE BIKING! Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Please check out my previous years stats in the sidebar on the left bottom of the page....$185,490.05 and counting, over the last nine years! YOU all helped me achieve that, and for that I am forever grateful!
Your support will change little lives.

November 15, 2025 -Ingersoll a Santa Claus Parade
15 Nov 2025Today I was able to participate in the Ingersoll Santa Claus parade! The weather (rain) held off until the end of the parade fortunately, and the temperature was conducive to this senior being on her bicycle! With the help of two high school students (who each got 3 volunteer hours) and one mom, we handed out 300 candy canes, 5 pounds of peppermint pinwheel candies and 300 glow sticks, donated by a couple of town stores, to the people lining the parade route! Just my way of thanking the many people who support me all year long in raising funds to fight childhood cancer!

31 Oct 2025While Rob's unfortunate experience detained him in Canada, we got to benefit from having him home with us for 4 days. While my cycling has mostly come to a close for this year (although the day of the Santa Claus Parade predicts 8 degrees and sunny, in which case I will be biking), Monday was a sunny day with 12 degree temperatures, Rob went for an 11.5 kilometer walk, and so I decided to bike along. Thank goodness for bike lanes and bike paths. What a wonderful time we had, chatting, bonding, and taking in some of the Halloween sites in town. He's back in Belgium now, but it was a great time spent together! See you on November 15, 2025 for the Santa Claus Parade!

27 Sep 2025One last ride for GCC 2025 with Mark Hiemstra. Twenty eight kilometers wasn't anything to break a sweat over for Mark, but close to my maximum kilometers I do at any given time. The weather was perfect for riding today, and, since we had not ever biked together before today, this was a great opportunity to get out for one last ride. After lunch at Tim Horton's, we headed back to my house, were we had a little sit down relax session to catch up on GCC talk and then Mark headed to Woodstock and then back home to Waterloo. Thank you so much for the lovely medallion Mark, and for coming down and doing a ride with me. We will have to try to do a ride together again next year....maybe on the G2G trail, who knows?

September 21, 2025 post GCC 2025 ride
21 Sep 2025Well my OCD really couldn’t allow my kilometers to sit at 3699 so I had to get out on this gorgeous afternoon for a quick ride to fix that but also want to watch the Jays win this afternoon!🤞. So now I am at 3701 km so now what🤷🏻♀️. I know there is one more planned ride for this coming Saturday so will add a few more for this year! Fundraising has been phenomenal this year, with one more speaking event for this week and then we are finished for GCC 2025!

August 28, 2025 - Day 28 #2
28 Aug 2025So in looking at my totals just now, I really feel like I need to do one more kilometer, to make it a nice round 3700 kilometers! But then I might as well try to raise another $57 to make the fundraising a nice even $43,000. So I need 57 people to pledge $1.00 or 1 person to put in $57.00. Anyone interested?

August 28, 2025 - Day 28
28 Aug 2025Today is the day I finished my 300 kilometers to ride in Arlene's memory, and for all the kids who are still fighting cancer, and for those who did not survive.....there are so many of them!!!! We continue to do this year after year, and still there are kids dying from cancer every year. All we can do, is to continue to fundraise, so at the very least, research can happen, to give better treatment options and outcomes. I am finished my riding for this year, and there are a few more things to do before I wrap this up for 2025.....for one thing, another $57.00 would give me a nice round total of $43,000.00, so if you can find it in you to donate that, I will be grateful, but even without that, I am so thankful for all the support you have all given to my efforts this year! I know I said this would be my last year, but man it's going to be difficult to stop, so stay tuned and see what happens next year! It might look a bit different, but I just might be back!!!
