July 31 ....

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

August 03 Day 3 ...

So, on the first ride I thought about the kids we are all riding to support. But, today I thought about the parents and how difficult it must be to hear a cancer diagnosis for your child and how hard it must be to watch the treatment plan unfold as your child has to struggle through the treatment and the side effects. I hope each set of parents have found a strong support system by reaching out to family and to friends.

August 06 Day 6 ...

Wow! I did it! I rode over 100 K this week and so have reached 25% of my goal!

August 16 Midpoint ...

So, I have made me goal of 200 K by the middle of the month (and some days were a struggle for this 77 year old!) and so I am both surprized by and pleased with myself! But, then you think about the struggles the kids face during their cancer challenges and I realize that my struggles are so manageable and theirs must not feel manageable at points in time. My thoughts are with the kids, their families and all the medical professionals that are there for them as they fight this cancer beast.

August 20

So here we are at the 2/3rds mark. I had 2 goals: ride daily and think of the kids daily. But I ran into a complication and so did not ride for 2 days. Today I did a long ride of 32 K to catch up and I do think of the kids each day.
