• London - Lyle's ride to the TAP, Holy Roller Tank and to Burger Burger
    20 Aug 2025

Parking at Gibbons Park, Lyle biked to the TAP which stands for The Arts Project, an art gallery downtown on Dundas Street. He did a drawing session there, then biked to Victoria Park to see the Holy Roller tank which was refurbished fairly recently, and it has been a landmark for visits with our kids over the years. This picture is from 2001 on a family bike ride with Andrew and Josh <3. Lyle spent some time there sketching the tank then continued up Richmond Street going north to Burger Burger restaurant for supper which is in an old building that has lots of character, giving this a unique vibe. One of his favourite places to go! He had a good day!

  • Long Point Bike Ride with Rita M: Tara
    20 Aug 2025

Rita and I came from opposite directions and met Monday morning at Long Point. We started at the lookout tower across from the Big Creek National Habitat Area which we found out is closed, they are rebuilding the viewing platform and have closed the entire thing until that's done. So we went to the viewing platform across the road and down on the other side, then went from there and biked along, seeing wetlands with lily pads, swans and herons. We continued down to the gateway to get into the Provincial Park, turned around and went up to Old Cut Road, turned right and went down to its end to the Chip Ship to have lunch. Their claim to fame is their Dill Pickle Fries. I don't eat fries much but I thought I might give Dill Pickle Fries a try, until I found out that the tiny one was $7.50. Instead I had Lake Erie pickerel on a bun, which was the same price! and it was very good. Rita ordered the standard size of Pulled Pork Poutine and it was humongous!! I would say it would be a large or extra large! After lunch, we stopped in at the bird sanctuary also Old Cut Road which was close to where we turned back onto the main strip it has a lovely network of trails through the bush and then they have another trail that goes over to another viewing platform. From there. We biked back to our starting point at the viewing platform, then packed the cars and drove off to the town of Port Rowan (which is with an hour or 2 to spend there, lovely little town) and then to Turkey Point to take in some other sights. It was a lovely day to spend together and catch up. The weather was perfect, nice that it was on the cooler side at 22° to bike.

  • Lyle's Solo Ride Home from CornFest
    10 Aug 2025

We enjoyed CornFest today. We had never been before! I can't believe we've lived in this area for 27 years and had never been to Corn Fest! We're usually on the road weekends, but we're local this weekend. We enjoyed some live music and some free corn on the cob there, along with seeing their car show and scarecrow display.

We hosted a dear friend this weekend and I had to drive her to the bus station this afternoon, so Lyle asked me to drop him off from east of Watford to bike home on this very hot day. I was a bit concerned, but I asked him to text me at different stops along the way. He made it... Very tired, but finished.
